Lokomotiv Yaroslavl defeated Avangard Omsk 4-3 in overtime of Game 7 to advance to the Gagarin Cup final, where they will face Ak Bars Kazan starting May 11.

In a dramatic seventh-game showdown at Yaroslavl's Arena-2000-Lokomotiv, the home team secured their place in the Gagarin Cup final with a hard-fought 4-3 overtime victory against Avangard Omsk. The win completes a thrilling comeback in the semifinal series and sets up a championship clash with Ak Bars Kazan.

The match began with an explosive start as Lokomotiv's Nikita Kiryanov found the back of the net just 25 seconds into the opening period, converting the team's very first shot on goal. The early strike was assisted by Richard Panik and Alexander Yelesin. Avangard responded quickly, leveling the score at the five-minute mark through a goal from Alexander Volkov, who was set up by Damir Sharipzyanov and Vasily Ponomaryov.

The second period belonged to Avangard, who seized control with two unanswered goals. At the 26-minute mark, Konstantin Okulov beat the goaltender with a precise shot to the far corner. Eight minutes later, Joseph Cecconi extended the lead to 3-1 with a shot from a sharp angle. Lokomotiv refused to go quietly, however, as Maxim Shalunov pulled one back before the intermission with a well-placed shot under the crossbar, making it 2-3 heading into the final frame.

Facing elimination, Lokomotiv mounted a furious push in the third period. Their persistence paid off at the 52-minute mark when Yegor Surin scored his first goal of the current playoff campaign, tying the game at 3-3. The crucial equalizer was assisted by Martin Gernat, sending the contest into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the decisive moment arrived in the second extra session. Maxim Berezkin emerged as the hero for Lokomotiv, netting the series-clinching goal that sent the Yaroslavl faithful into a frenzy and punched the team's ticket to the Gagarin Cup final.

With this victory, Lokomotiv advances to face Ak Bars Kazan in the championship series. The final is scheduled to begin on May 11 in Yaroslavl, where Lokomotiv will enjoy home-ice advantage to start the series.
