Security camera footage has captured the critical moments leading up to a fatal traffic altercation in Rio de Janeiro. The incident, which occurred in the Taquara neighborhood on Thursday afternoon, resulted in the death of a passenger, Thamires Rodrigues de Souza Peixoto.
The video shows a black app-based vehicle performing a maneuver as a white Peugeot passes by. According to witnesses, a confrontation erupted between the drivers. During the heated exchange, an occupant of the white vehicle fired a shot toward the ride-hailing car.
The bullet struck Thamires, who was seated in the back of the black vehicle, in the back. The driver of the app-based car immediately rushed her to the Cidade de Deus UPA (Urgent Care Unit). Despite being admitted in serious condition, she tragically did not survive her injuries.
Thamires Rodrigues was a designer. Her death is particularly poignant as she was scheduled to attend a Mother's Day celebration at her daughters' school the following day. In respect for the victim, the school canceled the planned activities and will reschedule the event.
The shooter, who fled the scene immediately after the incident, has not yet been identified. Police from the 18th BPM (Jacarepaguá) responded to the health unit. The case was initially registered at the 32nd DP (Taquara) but has since been transferred to the Capital Homicide Department (DHC), which is now leading the investigation.
The victim's body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML). Her funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday in the Irajá neighborhood. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify the perpetrator of this violent crime.
