Three Youths Caught Vandalizing Governor Monument in BrazilThree young individuals were caught on surveillance cameras vandalizing a monument dedicated to former governor João Alves Filho in the early hours of Thursday morning in Barra dos Coqueiros, Brazil.

The city's digital surveillance system, known as 'Muralha Digital,' captured the moment the youths arrived on foot and defaced the monument with red paint. The municipal government confirmed the incident and announced it will file a formal complaint with the Civil Police.

The city administration emphasized that vandalizing, damaging, or destroying public monuments constitutes the crime of qualified damage under Article 163 of the Brazilian Penal Code. This offense carries a potential sentence of six months to three years of detention, a fine, and the obligation to compensate public coffers for the damages caused.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the protection of public monuments and the effectiveness of urban surveillance systems in deterring and documenting such acts of vandalism.
