LOSC coach Bruno Genesio: club hasn't shown contract extension signs; focused on Sunday's crucial Monaco match for Champions League qualification.

LOSC manager Bruno Genesio has cast further doubt on his future at the club, revealing that the Lille hierarchy has not initiated any contract extension talks despite his deal expiring at the end of the season. Speaking ahead of a pivotal Ligue 1 clash against Monaco, the 59-year-old tactician stressed his full commitment to securing Champions League qualification before addressing his next step.

"Obviously, as the end of the season approaches, things evolve," Genesio said on Saturday. "But today, I am completely focused on the two matches we have left to win. Because it would be extraordinary to finish this season by qualifying directly for the Champions League or even finishing fourth, which was the situation when I arrived."

Lille currently sit fourth in Ligue 1, level on points with Monaco in third, making Sunday's encounter at Stade Louis II a de facto Champions League playoff. A win would put Les Dogues in pole position for automatic qualification, while a loss could see them slip into the qualifying rounds or worse. The stakes are immense for a club that has already exceeded expectations under Genesio.

Genesio took over from Paulo Fonseca in 2022 and has guided Lille back into European contention. His tactical acumen has earned praise, but the lack of a formal offer for an extension suggests the board may be weighing options. "There have been no contract extensions at LOSC, so I'm not going to lie to you," he admitted.

When pressed on outside interest, Genesio did not deny speculation linking him to other clubs. "Obviously, there are things being said around me, there are solicitations," he acknowledged. "But what's important in my situation is not to pay attention to that. It's to stay focused on what I have to do with LOSC."

The coach's future may hinge on whether Lille seal a Champions League berth. Direct qualification would solidify his bargaining position, while failure could prompt a mutual parting of ways. "After the season, it will be time to take stock of the sporting results, of the two years, and see what is possible for me and also for the club," Genesio explained. "Because we're talking about me, but today the club hasn't shown signs for anything either. So we'll see after the season. Perhaps a lot of things also depend on whether we qualify directly for the Champions League or not."

Sunday's match against Monaco is not only a battle for points but a referendum on Genesio's tenure. A victory would boost his case for a new deal, while a defeat could accelerate exit talks. Lille president Olivier Létang has remained characteristically tight-lipped, leaving the situation fluid.

For now, Genesio insists his focus is unwavering. "There are two matches left, one week, after that it will be time to make a sports assessment," he reiterated. "I am not thinking about my contract. I am thinking about Monaco."

As the Ligue 1 season reaches its climax, all eyes will be on how Lille performs—and what that means for Bruno Genesio's future at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
