Football expert Alexander Bubnov harshly criticized former Spartak Moscow coach Guillermo Abascal's reported wish to come back to the Russian Premier League, calling it audacious.

Guillermo Abascal, the former head coach of Spartak Moscow, has expressed a desire to return to the Russian Premier League (RPL). The Spanish tactician, who left Spartak earlier this year, reportedly wants another chance to manage in Russia's top flight. However, his ambitions have not been well received by everyone.

Alexander Bubnov, a well-known football analyst and former Soviet defender, weighed in on the matter with strong words. Bubnov did not mince his language, stating that Abascal's intention to come back is inappropriate and comes across as arrogant. The expert's comments reflect a sentiment that Abascal's previous tenure with Spartak was less than successful, making his return unwelcome in the eyes of some.

Abascal's stint at Spartak was mixed. He took over in 2022 and led the team to a second-place finish in the 2022/23 season. However, the following campaign saw a decline, culminating in his dismissal in April 2024. During his time at the club, he managed 48 matches, securing 22 wins, 13 draws, and 13 losses. His departure was accompanied by reports of internal conflicts and disappointing results.

Despite his departure, Abascal has remained in the football world, but his heart seems set on returning to Russia. His agent has reportedly been sounding out potential opportunities in the RPL. Yet, Bubnov's criticism indicates that not everyone in the Russian football community is keen on his return.

Bubnov's comments underscore a broader debate about foreign coaches in the RPL and their contributions. While some argue that Abascal's earlier success warrants a second chance, others feel his overall performance does not justify such a move. The expert's blunt assessment aligns with the latter view.

As of now, no official offers have been made to Abascal. The RPL continues to feature several international coaches, but the landscape remains competitive. Whether Abascal will actually return remains uncertain, but Bubnov's remarks highlight the resistance he may face.
