A verbal altercation between PL deputies Major Araújo and Amauri Ribeiro at the Goiás Legislative Assembly escalated to a death threat, prompting an ethics complaint.

A tense confrontation between two state deputies from the same political party erupted into a serious incident at the Goiás Legislative Assembly (Alego) on Thursday. The exchange between Major Araújo and Amauri Ribeiro, both members of the PL, culminated in a direct death threat, a moment captured on video.

The conflict stems from a series of mutual accusations that have been building for over a week. The initial spark involved criticism regarding the absence of PL state president, Senator Wilder Morais, during a key vote concerning the nomination of Jorge Messias to the Supreme Court. Deputy Amauri Ribeiro had publicly questioned the senator's absence, a move Major Araújo later condemned as being made in bad faith.

During the heated session, Major Araújo accused his colleague of misleading the public about the implications of the senator's vote. He further alleged that Amauri Ribeiro maintained a friendly relationship with former governor Ronaldo Caiado, pointing to past instances he claimed showed alignment. Amauri Ribeiro, participating virtually, fired back, defending his relationships and accusing the major of hypocrisy, noting the major's own past praise for Caiado.

The verbal sparring reached its peak when Amauri Ribeiro was leaving the chamber. Video evidence shows Major Araújo shouting a threat, warning his colleague that he would not live to see the next day if he were to lay a hand on him. This explicit threat has triggered a formal response.

The office of Deputy Amauri Ribeiro confirmed that while the deputy himself would not comment further, his legal team would file a formal complaint with the Assembly's Ethics Council. The complaint will allege a breach of parliamentary decorum resulting from the death threat.

In response, Major Araújo's office acknowledged the existence of video footage showing Amauri Ribeiro had made a prior provocative statement. The major's team characterized the entire episode as a political disagreement, stating that such debates are inherent to the political process. They reaffirmed the major's commitment to firmness and loyalty to right-wing principles.
