Lokomotiv Yaroslavl forward Yegor Surin describes the epic semifinal series against Avangard as the most emotional of his career, while discussing the team's status in the KHL.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl forward Yegor Surin has opened up about the incredible emotional rollercoaster of their Gagarin Cup semifinal series against Avangard Omsk. The series, which Lokomotiv won 4-3, featured some of the most dramatic moments in recent KHL playoff history.

The turning point came in Game 6 when Yaroslavl staged a remarkable comeback. Trailing by two goals with less than a minute remaining in the third period, Lokomotiv scored twice to force overtime, eventually winning 4-3 in double overtime. This set the stage for a decisive Game 7.

In the final game, history repeated itself as Lokomotiv again overcame a two-goal deficit. The team, coached by Bob Hartley, once more battled back to force extra time before securing the victory that propelled them into the Gagarin Cup final.

When asked if this was the most incredible and emotional series of his career, Surin didn't hesitate. "Yes, of course. I don't even know what would have to happen for something like that to happen again," he said. While acknowledging it was a valuable experience, he added honestly that he wouldn't want to go through such intense situations again.

The series against Avangard marked Lokomotiv's third appearance in the Gagarin Cup final in the last three years. This consistent success has led some to label them as the top team in the KHL currently. However, Surin offered a measured perspective on this assessment.

"Reaching the final doesn't determine that," Surin commented when asked about Lokomotiv's status. "Everything will depend on how the season ends." His words suggest the team remains focused on the ultimate prize rather than resting on their impressive playoff run.

The semifinal series showcased the resilience and character of the Lokomotiv squad. Their ability to twice overcome significant deficits in elimination games demonstrates the mental fortitude that has made them consistent contenders in Russia's top hockey league.
