A 57-year-old man, Manoel Carvalho Barros, died from electrocution while operating a water pump in Piauí, marking the second such fatal incident in the state

A tragic incident in the northern region of Piauí state has claimed the life of a 57-year-old man, marking the second electrocution death linked to water pumps in the area within a short three-day span. The victim, identified as Manoel Carvalho Barros, suffered a fatal electric shock in the early hours of Friday morning.

The incident occurred in the Centro de Bom Princípio neighborhood. According to initial reports, Barros was attempting to draw water from a public source using a pump. This action was reportedly taken due to a temporary interruption in the municipal water supply affecting the locality.

Family members were alerted to the emergency when they heard the victim's cries for help. They acted quickly to disconnect the electrical power to the pump and immediately called for emergency medical assistance. The Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (SAMU) was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the SAMU medical team initiated resuscitation procedures in an effort to save Barros's life. Despite their prolonged efforts, the team was unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The local municipal government issued a statement expressing its condolences for the man's passing.

The case has been referred to the Instituto Médico Legal (IML), which was called to the location to remove the body for a formal examination. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the precise circumstances of the electrocution, including the condition of the equipment and the electrical setup.

This incident is particularly alarming as it is the second death of its kind in Piauí in just three days, raising serious concerns about the safety of using such equipment, especially during periods of water scarcity. The community is now grappling with the loss and the urgent need for awareness regarding electrical safety when handling water pumps.
