Brazilian sertanejo duo Matheus & Kauan discuss their new 'Sintonia' tour and 'Astral' project, revealing a strategic shift towards pop music and diverse collaborations to keep their sound fresh and surprise fans.

In a move to continually surprise their fanbase and avoid creative stagnation, Brazilian sertanejo superstars Matheus & Kauan are actively expanding their musical horizons. The duo, speaking at the Ribeirão Rodeo Music 2026 festival, outlined their commitment to innovation, which includes a significant foray into pop music and a series of high-profile collaborations with artists from outside their traditional genre.

The brothers recently demonstrated this philosophy by making a surprise appearance at a bar in Belo Horizonte for a free show. Their new tour, "Matheus & Kauan Sintonia," which launched at the festival, features a symphonic orchestra on stage, blending their sound with a distinct rock and roll energy. According to Kauan, the goal is to prepare novelties that fans will enjoy, regardless of the genre, because the public doesn't want to hear the same thing over and over.

This pop-centric approach is not a recent development but a core part of their identity. Matheus emphasized that the duo's essence has always been rooted in pop, even though their foundations remain sertanejo. This direction was further cemented through their "Astral" project, celebrating 15 years together, which included re-recordings of pop hits like Marjorie Estiano's "Você Sempre Será" and Capital Inicial's "Eu Vou Estar." Kauan noted that these covers were a natural fit, as he has been singing pop since he was a boy.

The strategy extends to a robust lineup of new collaborations. The duo has already recorded with major pop acts such as Anitta, Anavitória, Biquini, and Alok. However, they are also reinforcing their sertanejo roots with new partnerships. They recently released "Admita" with Lauana Prado and have just finished recording "Meu Silêncio" with Simone Mendes for the continuation of the "Astral" DVD, which was filmed in Belo Horizonte.

Matheus highlighted that the upcoming track with Simone Mendes is poised to be a turning point for both artists. Another notable collaboration is with Panda, marking the duo's first-ever bolero. Kauan explained they felt Panda, who is experiencing a career high, would be a perfect match for the style. A deliberate focus of these partnerships has been to spotlight female artists, whom Matheus described as super friends, making their participation an honor for the project.

The duo confirmed that their genre experiments have been well-received, with no negative backlash from fans of the original artists they covered. Their willingness to blend styles proves that while their music is sertanejo at heart, it can successfully traverse other musical landscapes, keeping their long-standing career dynamic and engaging for a broad audience.
