A new municipal vascular clinic in Rio das Ostras opened May 4, offering advanced varicose vein treatment and diagnostics. It aims to handle nearly 1,700 monthly visits, ending the need for residents to travel for care.

The city of Rio das Ostras has just opened a major new healthcare facility, marking a significant win for local residents. The first Municipal Vascular Clinic began operations on May 4th, immediately hitting the ground running with over 50 sclerotherapy procedures on its inaugural day for patients already on the schedule.

This new clinic is set to become a powerhouse in regional healthcare. Officials project it will handle close to 1,700 appointments every month. This total breaks down into approximately 700 vascular surgery and angiology consultations, 530 Doppler ultrasound exams for arterial and venous assessment, and 430 sclerotherapy procedures.

Sclerotherapy is a key service offered at the clinic. It's a modern, minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins that uses foam injections, eliminating the need for traditional surgery and cuts. This technology allows for a much faster recovery time for patients.

The clinic's location at 129 Rua Rio Grande do Sul, in the Extensão do Bosque area near the Health Center, is strategic. It directly addresses a major pain point for the community, as patients previously had to travel to other cities, like Rio de Janeiro, for specialized vascular care and complex exams.

Mayor Carlos Augusto highlighted the achievement, stating the clinic fulfills a long-held dream for residents who used to wake up before dawn to seek treatment elsewhere. He emphasized the city's commitment to building a health network of excellence with a qualified technical team.

Vice-Mayor and Health Secretary Fábio Simões noted the clinic will immediately clear a backlog of about 200 patients waiting for treatment. He acknowledged the state's role in providing specialized services but affirmed the city's dedication to offering the best possible care with dignity.

Patient testimonials underscore the impact. Celeste Caldas, who previously traveled to Rio de Janeiro for treatment, expressed relief at the newfound convenience. Resident Alexandre Marinho became emotional, praising the city's focus on caring for the elderly and all citizens.

The inauguration also served as a platform to announce broader advances in Rio das Ostras' municipal health network. These include hiring new doctors, modernizing all dental offices, improvements to the UPA and Emergency Room, and ongoing renovations at the Extensão do Bosque Health Center.

Additional initiatives mentioned include a partnership with the Federal Government bringing an Ophthalmology Truck to the city, performing over 100 cataract surgeries daily. Future plans involve an annex to the Municipal Hospital to increase bed capacity and a renovation of the Municipal Emergency Room for greater comfort.

The mayor also reaffirmed the commitment to the hospital expansion and new emergency room construction project, with the municipal administration actively seeking resources from the State Government to fund it.

The new Vascular Clinic operates Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. Appointments are scheduled through the Coordination of Management, Evaluation and Auditing (COGA) regulation system. Based on reporting from g1.
