Ufa FC prepares a collective appeal after receiving a technical loss for missing a match due to airspace closure. Other clubs express confusion over the disciplinary committee's decision.

The Russian football community is reacting strongly to a recent disciplinary decision involving FC Ufa. The club's general director, Marat Shmakov, has announced that Ufa is preparing a collective appeal with support from other teams following a technical defeat awarded in their 32nd-round Liga Pari match against SKA-Khabarovsk.

The controversy stems from Ufa's inability to travel to Khabarovsk for the scheduled fixture. The club cited the closure of airspace, known as a 'Carpet' regime, as the primary reason they could not make the journey. This situation, which Shmakov notes is becoming more frequent, left the team physically unable to reach the match venue.

Shmakov expressed significant confusion over the ruling by the Russian Football Union's Disciplinary Committee (KDK RFU). He stated that the club is in contact with representatives from other organizations, many of whom share their bewilderment. The sentiment has grown into an initiative for a joint statement, as such logistical challenges could affect clubs across various sports.

The Ufa director detailed the club's travel planning, explaining they had chosen a route through Novosibirsk, a path they had successfully used before for an away match in Krasnoyarsk. This option was selected as optimal for player welfare, considering a tight schedule and significant time difference with Khabarovsk. Shmakov firmly rejected any notion that the decision was financially motivated.

A point of contention is the reported 47-minute layover time. Shmakov clarified that the airline had scheduled a one-hour connection, not accounting for baggage handling and aircraft preparation. He also disputed claims that tickets were returned after the airspace closure was announced, stating the refund was only processed after the airline officially confirmed the connecting flight was impossible.

Furthermore, Shmakov refuted statements from SKA-Khabarovsk's general director, claiming Ufa refused a match postponement to May 4. He argued that with all logistics considered, the team could have arrived in Khabarovsk by 20:00 local time on that date. The club is now awaiting the full official text of the KDK RFU decision to prepare a formal appeal.

The case highlights the growing logistical hurdles for teams in Russian professional sports. Ufa maintains that the circumstances constitute a force majeure event, an objective factor beyond their control, and questions the procedural timeline of the disciplinary hearing.
