Estádio Lausana-Ouchy
Stade Lausanne-Ouchy, often abbreviated as SLO, is a Swiss football club based in the historic city of Lausanne, in the canton of Vaud. The club was founded in 2000 through the merger of two long-standing local sides: Stade Lausanne (founded in 1901) and FC Ouchy (founded in 1906). This merger aimed to consolidate footballing talent in the southern part of the city, creating a stronger identity for the district of Ouchy, a picturesque lakeside neighborhood on Lake Geneva. While the club is relatively young, its roots stretch back over a century, and it quickly established itself as a competitive force in Swiss lower-league football. SLO plays its home matches at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise, a multi-sport arena built for the 1954 FIFA World Cup. With a capacity of around 15,850, the stadium is shared with the city’s more famous club, FC Lausanne-Sport. The ground offers sweeping views of the Alps on clear days, creating a uniquely scenic matchday atmosphere. The club’s colors are red and white, reflecting both the city’s heraldic traditions and the Swiss flag. For much of its history, Stade Lausanne-Ouchy competed in the Swiss Challenge League, the country’s second tier. The club’s breakthrough moment came in the 2022–23 season, when they secured promotion to the Swiss Super League for the first time after a dramatic playoff victory against FC Sion. Their maiden top-flight campaign in 2023–24 was a tough learning experience; despite spirited performances, they finished bottom of the table and were relegated back to the Challenge League after just one season. As of the current season, SLO is aiming for an immediate return to the top flight, sitting in the upper half of the Challenge League under the guidance of manager Dalibor Stevanović. Notable achievements remain modest—SLO has never won a major domestic trophy or qualified for European competition. Their finest hour remains the Super League promotion. Legendary players are scarce in the club’s short history, but figures like Alban Ajdini (a key goalscorer during the promotion campaign) and goalkeeper Melvin N’Zouké have been fan favorites. The club’s playing style traditionally emphasizes technical possession, quick transitions, and pressing, though this has varied with managerial changes. Fan culture at Stade Lausanne-Ouchy is intimate and community-focused, with a loyal core known as the “Ultras Ouchy” creating vibrant but family-friendly support in the stands. The club’s main rivalry is with FC Lausanne-Sport, the city’s larger and more historic team. Matches between the two are known as the “Petit Derby Lémanique,” and while SLO often plays the underdog role, the derbies are fiercely contested and draw strong local interest. An interesting fact: SLO’s promotion to the Super League in 2023 made them the first club from the Ouchy district to ever play in the top division of Swiss football, a milestone for a club that was formed only two decades earlier.
