Al-Ettifaq
Founded in 1944 in the Eastern Province city of Dammam, Al-Ettifaq Club is one of the pioneering institutions of Saudi Arabian football. The club's name, meaning "The Agreement" or "The Accord," reflects its origins as a unifying force for local youth. As a founding member of the Saudi Premier League in 1976, Al-Ettifaq quickly established itself as a formidable force, claiming back-to-back league titles in the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons. This golden era also saw them lift the King's Cup in 1985 and 1986, cementing their status as a national powerhouse. The team plays its home matches at the Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, a venue that has witnessed decades of football history. Al-Ettifaq's identity is built on a tradition of technical, attacking football, often nurturing local talent. The club's most legendary figure is arguably the iconic Saudi striker Majed Abdullah, who began his illustrious career there before moving to Al-Nassr. Other notable players include the creative midfielder Sami Al-Jaber and the prolific forward Fahad Al-Mehallel. The club's passionate fanbase, known for their unwavering support, fuels the intense Eastern Province Derby against local rivals Al-Qadsiah and Al-Ahli. While recent decades have seen fluctuations in form, Al-Ettifaq remains a respected name in Saudi football. Currently competing in the Saudi Pro League, the club has entered a new chapter with significant investment from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), aiming to restore its former glory. A fascinating historical footnote is that Al-Ettifaq was the first Saudi club to reach the final of the Asian Club Championship (now AFC Champions League) in 1987, highlighting their early continental ambition.
