World No. 3 Coco Gauff confirms full recovery from illness that affected her Madrid Open performance. The American star took three days off and is now fully prepared for the Rome WTA-1000 tournament.

American tennis star Coco Gauff has provided a positive health update ahead of the WTA-1000 tournament in Rome. The two-time Grand Slam champion and world number three confirmed she has fully recovered from the illness that hampered her during the previous event in Madrid.

Gauff experienced physical discomfort during the Madrid Open, where her campaign ended in the fourth round with a loss to Czech player Linda Noskova. The match was a tight three-set affair, concluding 4-6, 6-1, 6-7(5).

Speaking at a pre-tournament press conference in Rome, Gauff detailed her recovery process. She explained that she took a three-day break following her final match in Madrid. By the time she resumed training, she felt completely back to normal.

"When I started my first practice, I already felt at 100%," Gauff stated. She described the period of illness as a strange 48 to 72 hours but emphasized that she now feels as if nothing had happened.

Despite the challenging circumstances in Madrid, Gauff managed to find positives in her performance. She noted that she fought through several tough matches and had opportunities in her final contest against Noskova, even while not feeling her best physically.

Looking ahead to the Italian capital, Gauff will begin her Rome campaign in the second round. Her opponent will be Czech tennis player Tereza Valentova.

The young American star will be looking to build momentum on the clay courts of Rome as the season progresses toward the French Open. Her ability to quickly recover and refocus demonstrates the resilience that has propelled her to the top of the women's game.
