The cultural landscape of Campinas, São Paulo, is set for a major boost as two of Brazil's most celebrated arts institutions open new branches in the city. The Escola Olodum, the educational arm of the iconic Afro-Brazilian carnival bloc, and the Cisne Negro dance company are launching free programs aimed at nurturing young talent.
The new facilities, located in the Parque Oziel neighborhood, officially began operations on Thursday, May 7. This initiative is spearheaded by the Instituto CPFL and represents a significant investment in social inclusion through arts education.
In total, 400 free spots are available. The Escola Olodum Campinas will offer 300 places for children, adolescents, and young adults aged 7 to 29. Their curriculum includes percussion with a focus on samba-reggae, choir singing, and Afro dance. Activities are scheduled to commence this month, May 2026.
Simultaneously, the Cisne Negro Dance Nucleus will provide 100 spots for classical ballet instruction. These classes are designed for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The company, which has performed in 17 countries, aims to democratize access to high-quality dance training.
The choice of Parque Oziel is deliberate. The area, once known as one of the largest urban occupations in Latin America, is now a hub for community-driven social and cultural projects. Leaders believe the location aligns perfectly with the mission of these arts programs.
Daniela Ortolani Pagotto, head of the Instituto CPFL, emphasized the goal of fostering future opportunities. She stated that bringing these two projects together in the same territory aims to help children and youth engage with diverse cultural languages and develop their talents.
Marcelo Gentil, president of Olodum, highlighted the cultural potency of the region. He affirmed that establishing a school in Parque Oziel is a commitment to providing real opportunities in artistic training and human development for young people in vulnerable social situations.
The director and choreographer of Cisne Negro also noted the importance of this expansion. She described it as a crucial step in broadening a consolidated artistic training initiative to a region marked by social vulnerability. Interested parties can register via the official Escola Olodum Campinas website or through the institutions' official forms.
