Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge recommends Cesc Fabregas for the vacant head coach position, praising his football intelligence and success at Como. Bridge also advises the Blues to strengthen at centre-back and find a backup striker.

Former Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge has thrown his support behind Cesc Fabregas to become the club's next head coach. In an exclusive interview with the Mirror, Bridge revealed that he has spoken with Fabregas in recent years and believes the Spaniard possesses the tactical acumen and passion to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas, now 39, is currently impressing in his first managerial role at Como in Serie A, guiding the Italian side to a strong campaign. His reputation has grown, and he has been linked with a return to Chelsea following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior after just four months in charge. The Blues have struggled this season, enduring six consecutive Premier League defeats, though they have an FA Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon.

Bridge highlighted Fabregas's intelligence as a player and drew parallels with Michael Carrick at Manchester United. "He is such an intelligent player," Bridge told the Mirror. "I know people who have been to Como to see him and they speak very highly of him. It's a bit like Michael Carrick at Manchester United—coming in and getting the team playing well. From what I hear, he has got great ideas. I like the sound of Cesc."

The former England international, who spent seven years at Chelsea, also emphasized the need for experienced signings. "It has to start from the back," he said. "They definitely need experience at centre-half. You only have to look at what Thiago Silva did when he came in. I've mentioned Marquinhos at PSG before." Bridge suggested that the club should prioritize a commanding center-back and a backup for forward Joao Pedro.

Chelsea are currently in a transitional phase, with BlueCo seeking their fifth permanent manager since taking over in 2022. Alongside Fabregas, other candidates such as Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola, and Xavi have been mentioned. However, Bridge's personal endorsement adds weight to Fabregas's candidacy.

Despite their league struggles, Chelsea have a chance to salvage the season in the FA Cup final. Depending on their final league position, they could still qualify for European competition, and lifting the trophy would guarantee a Europa League spot.

Bridge also addressed the goalkeeping situation, noting that Robert Sanchez is a great shot-stopper but could improve his distribution. He stressed that strengthening the spine of the team is crucial for a return to success.
