Three daycare workers in Bariri, Brazil, were arrested on suspicion of abusing a 2-year-old child, following an internal investigation and police inquiry.

Brazil Daycare Workers Arrested for Alleged Child AbuseThree employees of a municipal daycare center in Bariri, São Paulo, Brazil, were preventively arrested on Thursday, May 7th, on suspicion of physically assaulting a 2-year-old child in their care.

The arrests were carried out jointly by the Military Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office. The case came to light on April 28th when the Bariri City Hall published, in the Official Municipal Gazette, the suspension of the three civil servants suspected of involvement in the assaults at the Municipal Daycare Professor Nelly Chidid.

In the same publication, the municipal administration announced the opening of an internal disciplinary proceeding to investigate the conduct of the employees. The procedure is confidential and has a 30-day deadline for completion.

According to the city hall, one of the suspects worked as a temporary caregiver, while the other two served as child development assistants.

The Civil Police confirmed that a police report was filed and a police investigation has been launched to look into the case. Security camera footage from the daycare center is being analyzed as part of the investigation to help clarify the allegations.

The investigations are ongoing.
