Judge Mariana Francisco Ferreira, 34, died following an egg collection procedure for in vitro fertilization in São Paulo. Her colleagues from Rio Grande do Sul traveled to pay their final respects, calling her an incredible person.

In a tragic turn of events, Brazilian Judge Mariana Francisco Ferreira has passed away at the age of 34 following a medical procedure. The magistrate died on Wednesday after undergoing an egg retrieval for in vitro fertilization at a reproductive assistance clinic in Mogi das Cruzes, located in the São Paulo metropolitan area.

The case has been officially registered as both a suspicious death and an accidental death, with police launching a full investigation. Authorities are working to determine whether the fatality resulted from potential failures in medical care or from complications inherent to the procedure itself.

Ferreira, who hailed from Niterói in Rio de Janeiro, had been serving in courts across Rio Grande do Sul since late 2023. Her judicial career saw her appointed to the 1st Judicial Court of Parobé upon joining the state's judiciary. She later served in Porto Alegre and São Luiz Gonzaga before most recently taking a position at the Criminal Court of Sapiranga in February of this year.

The outpouring of grief from her professional circle has been profound. Her team of assessors, based in Rio Grande do Sul, immediately mobilized to travel to São Paulo for the farewell ceremonies. One assessor, Maurício Silva Colferai, described Ferreira as far more than a boss, highlighting her as a friend who captivated people with ease. He noted their team proudly called themselves "Assessors of the Best Judge in the World," a testament to her impact.

Colferai also shed light on her unwavering dedication, revealing she had been working late into Sunday evening to review case files. He emphasized that she deserved every possible tribute for her commitment and character. The farewell ceremony was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Mogi das Cruzes, with a funeral procession planned for the following morning.

According to the police report, Ferreira underwent the egg collection on a Monday morning and was discharged around 9 a.m. She returned home but soon began experiencing severe pain and chills. Her condition worsened, prompting her mother to bring her back to the clinic by 11 a.m. She was subsequently transferred to a maternity hospital, where she was admitted directly to the Intensive Care Unit.

Despite undergoing surgery the next day and receiving intensive care, her clinical condition deteriorated gravely. The clinic involved, Invitro Reprodução Assistida, issued a statement expressing deep sorrow. They asserted that from the first signs of complication, their medical team immediately implemented all necessary technical protocols and provided emergency care before transferring her to an appropriate hospital.

The clinic further stated that all surgical and medical procedures carry inherent risks, even when performed with adherence to technical protocols and specialized oversight. They affirmed their full cooperation with the investigating authorities while respecting medical confidentiality and the family's privacy during this difficult time.
