Meta to Use AI to Verify Instagram, Facebook User AgesMeta announced on Tuesday that it will implement a new AI-powered system to verify the ages of users on its Instagram and Facebook platforms. The technology will analyze features such as height and bone structure from user-uploaded images to determine if an account belongs to a minor under the age of 13.
The company specified that the system will not perform facial recognition. The feature is scheduled for an initial rollout in Brazil, the United States, and the European Union.
If the AI system identifies an account as belonging to a person under 13, the account will be deactivated. The user will then be required to provide proof of age to prevent the account from being permanently deleted.
