The city of Itanhaém has officially opened a major new facility dedicated to combating diabetes. The Centro Municipal de Endocrinologia e Diabetes Dr. Antônio José Dias Martins, known as CEMEDI, began its specialized services in April, aiming to transform care for thousands of residents with chronic conditions.

Located on Rua Profª Dinorah Cruz in the city center, the center is already making a significant impact. Officials report that approximately 9,000 patient files are currently active, demonstrating the immediate demand for and utilization of its services. The primary goal is to strengthen the local healthcare network, specifically focusing on chronic disease management and improving access to critical tools like glycemic monitoring.

The facility is equipped to provide comprehensive care. It features three medical consultation rooms, two nursing rooms, and a dedicated interactive space for health education. This setup is designed to offer patients continuous follow-up and specialized guidance, moving beyond simple treatment to proactive health management.

A key strength of CEMEDI is its multidisciplinary team. The staff includes doctors, nurses, nursing technicians, a nutritionist, and a psychologist. This collaborative approach ensures that patients receive holistic support, addressing not just the medical aspects of diabetes but also the nutritional and psychological factors crucial for long-term well-being.

Beyond direct patient consultations, the center plays a vital role in public health initiatives. It participates in campaigns for the early detection of diabetes and provides essential supplies, including insulin and other necessary inputs. Furthermore, CEMEDI is involved in continuous health education, training professionals in both basic and specialized care to elevate the standard of diabetes management across the entire local health network.

The establishment of CEMEDI represents a strategic investment in the future health of Itanhaém's population. By centralizing expertise and resources, the city aims to provide a higher quality of life for those living with diabetes and to foster a community better informed about prevention and self-care.
