The highly anticipated Passos Rodeio Show 2026 has been officially canceled. The event, which was set to take place from May 14 to 17 at the Adolpho Coelho Lemos Exhibition Park, will no longer proceed as planned. The decision was announced jointly by the Municipal Prefecture of Passos and the Rural Union of Passos.

The cancellation comes in direct response to formal recommendations issued by the Minas Gerais State Public Prosecution Office (MPMG). The authorities determined there was insufficient time to implement all the necessary legal and administrative adjustments required to host the event in compliance with the prosecution's directives.

The MPMG had opened an investigation into the event's promotion. Specifically, the Public Prosecutor's Office for Public Heritage in Passos and the Regional Coordination of Public Heritage Prosecutors in the Southwest of Minas Gerais issued two formal recommendations to the city government.

These recommendations focused on the need for adjustments to the partnership agreements and the financial terms related to the event's attractions. The prosecution's scrutiny highlighted concerns over the structure and values involved in the event's organization.

The original program for the Passos Rodeio Show 2026 featured a four-day lineup of rodeo competitions and musical performances. The roster included prominent Brazilian sertanejo artists such as Matogrosso & Mathias, Zé Henrique & Gabriel, Projeto Moagem, João Pedro & Cristiano, Emílio & Eduardo, and João Neves.

Admission to the main arena area was planned to be free for the public, with revenue generated through the sale of private cabin tickets (camarotes). This model was part of the event's financial structure that came under review.

The joint statement from the Prefecture and the Rural Union emphasized that the decision was made by mutual agreement. They cited the prosecution's recommendations and the practical impossibility of meeting all requirements within the remaining timeframe as the decisive factors.

This cancellation represents a significant disruption to the local cultural and economic calendar in Passos. The rodeo show is a major annual attraction, and its absence will be felt by the community and local businesses. Based on reporting from g1.
