A tragic incident in Parnamirim, part of the Greater Natal metropolitan area, has claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy. The teenager drowned in a lagoon located within a construction site on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 12:50 PM on Rua Júlio Fernandes de Macedo in the Nova Esperança neighborhood. Three adolescents were involved in the drowning incident at the location.

While one life was lost, a swift intervention by a nearby witness prevented a greater tragedy. The witness managed to rescue the other two teenagers from the water, saving their lives.

The witness, who has chosen to remain anonymous, provided an account of the harrowing events to Inter TV. Their quick actions were crucial in the rescue effort.

Local authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. A key focus is the legal status of the construction site where the lagoon is situated.

According to Marco Maroja, the coordinator for the municipal Civil Defense, the site belongs to a condominium in the area. The city is conducting a documentation review to determine if the construction work was properly authorized.

The investigation aims to establish whether any negligence or regulatory failures contributed to the dangerous conditions that led to the drowning. The community is left mourning the loss of a young life.
