Club Always Ready, founded on April 13, 1933, in the high-altitude city of La Paz, Bolivia, is one of the country’s most storied and resilient football institutions. Their 2019 and 2020 domestic league triumphs—coming after decades of near-misses—propelled them into the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition. Though they have yet to conquer the continent, their high-altitude home advantage has produced memorable upsets, including a stunning 3-0 victory over Brazilian giants Santos in 2021. The club’s rivalries are intense, particularly the “Clásico de la Paz” against The Strongest—a derby that divides the city along historical and social lines—and a long-standing enmity with Bolívar. Interestingly, Always Ready is one of the few Bolivian clubs to have been founded by military officers, and its logo features a stoic eagle—symbolizing vigilance and ambition.
