FC Pacifique
Pacific FC, founded in 2018, is the youngest professional football club on Vancouver Island and one of the original seven members of the Canadian Premier League (CPL). Based in Langford, British Columbia—a suburban community within the Greater Victoria area—the club emerged from the country’s restructuring of the domestic game, bringing top-flight soccer to the island for the first time. The club’s crest features a stylized trident and a Douglas fir, symbolizing both its Pacific maritime roots and the island’s rugged natural environment. Home matches are played at Starlight Stadium, a purpose-built 6,000-capacity venue located in Langford’s City Centre Park. The stadium’s intimate setting, with stands close to the pitch, creates an electric atmosphere. Opened in 2019, Starlight has become a fortress for the Tridents, who feed off the energy of the “Lake Side Buoys,” the club’s passionate supporter group. Their chants, flags, and tifo displays are a cornerstone of matchdays, embodying a growing soccer culture on the island. Pacific FC’s defining achievement came in 2021 when they won the CPL championship, lifting the North Star Shield. Under head coach Pa‑Modou Kah, the team played an expansive, attacking brand of football that captivated neutrals. They overcame top-seeded Cavalry FC in the semi‑finals and defeated Forge FC 1‑0 in the final, with Alessandro Hojabrpour scoring the memorable winner. That victory earned them a berth in the 2022 CONCACAF League, where they reached the Round of 16, defeating Costa Rican side Municipal Grecia before falling to Guatemalan powerhouse Comunicaciones. Though still a young club, Pacific FC has already developed a reputation for identifying and nurturing talent. Notable players from the championship era include midfielder Marco Bustos, whose creativity and dribbling made him a fan favorite; striker Terran Campbell, the team’s all‑time leading scorer; and Josh Heard, a dynamic winger who continues to lead the attack. The club’s identity is built on technical skill, high pressing, and a commitment to developing Canadian talent—a philosophy carried forward by current head coach James Merriman, who succeeded Kah after the title win. The Tridents share a fierce rivalry with Cavalry FC, dating back to the 2021 playoff clash, and with Forge FC, the league’s most decorated club. Matches against Vancouver Island’s amateur sides are rare but draw local interest. Currently, Pacific FC remains a competitive force in the CPL, consistently challenging for a playoff spot and serving as a proud representative of Victoria and Vancouver Island’s soccer community. Off the pitch, their partnership with community programs and emphasis on youth development underscore their status as a club built for the long haul, with a bright future on Canada’s Pacific coast.
