New Bridge and Road Project in Piracicaba Aims to Alleviate Traffic CongestionA significant infrastructure development is underway in Piracicaba, São Paulo, designed to tackle persistent traffic congestion in the region. The project, with a budget of R$ 50 million, involves the construction of a new bridge and access road connecting Rodovia Geraldo de Barros (SP-304) and Avenida das Ondas.

The centerpiece of the project is a 150-meter bridge spanning the Rio Piracicaba. This structure has been specifically engineered to avoid flooding, a critical consideration for the area. Accompanying the bridge is a 19-meter-wide road featuring two lanes, a central median, and a public walkway that is prepared for the future addition of a cycle path.

The primary goal of this initiative is to alleviate traffic congestion in the Santa Terezinha region and at the Ponte do Caixão. This existing crossing currently accommodates a substantial flow of 32,000 vehicles per day, highlighting the urgent need for improved infrastructure.

The project's continuation is contingent upon the approval of Projeto de Lei 82/2026. This legislation deals with the declassification of areas from the Parque Natural Chico Mendes for road purposes. Once licensing and bidding processes are finalized, the estimated construction timeline is 18 months.
