Ride-Share Passenger Fatally Shot in Vehicle in Campos dos Goytacazes

A 26-year-old man was killed in a shooting inside a ride-share car in Campos dos Goytacazes. The driver was also injured and hospitalized. Police are investigating the incident.

A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon in Campos dos Goytacazes, resulting in the death of a young man inside a ride-share vehicle. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Cláudio Henrique Jeremias Prudêncio, was fatally shot while traveling in the car.

According to reports from the Military Police, the shooting occurred on Avenida José Carlos Pereira Pinto in the Guarus neighborhood. Witnesses indicated that Cláudio was returning from the city's Forum in the central area when the vehicle was suddenly targeted by multiple gunshots near Parque Calabouço.

The barrage of bullets struck the car, and Cláudio Henrique was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the ride-share vehicle was also hit by gunfire during the attack. He was quickly transported to Ferreira Machado Hospital for medical treatment. As of the latest update, there has been no official information released regarding the driver's condition.

The violent episode also affected a third-party vehicle. A van from the Enel utility company was passing by the avenue at the time of the shooting and was struck by gunfire. The driver's side window of the van was shattered, but fortunately, no one inside that vehicle sustained injuries.

The body of Cláudio Henrique was subsequently transferred to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Campos for a forensic examination. The case has been taken over by the 146th Police Station in Guarus, which has launched a formal investigation into the homicide.

Authorities have stated that the motive behind the fatal shooting remains unknown at this time. No suspects have been identified or apprehended in connection with the crime as the investigation continues.
