Federal government recognizes emergency in Xapuri, Acre, after a flood impacts over 400 residents and 152 families across nine neighborhoods on April 16.

The Brazilian federal government has officially recognized a state of emergency in the city of Xapuri, located in the interior of Acre state. The declaration, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on Thursday, May 7, comes in response to a severe flood that impacted the community on April 16.

The floodwaters affected more than 400 people in the municipality. According to the official decree signed by Mayor Maxsuel Maia, the abnormal situation caused by the waters impacted a total of 152 families, disrupting life across multiple parts of the city.

The recognition of emergency status is a critical administrative step. It allows the municipality to formally request financial resources and support from the federal government. These funds are designated for essential actions to assist the affected population, including the delivery of humanitarian aid and the recovery of damaged areas.

The flood's impact was widespread, affecting nine distinct neighborhoods within Xapuri. The areas listed in the official documentation include Centro, Pantanal, Hermínio de Melo, Laranjal, Major Salinas, Comunidade Catete, Comunidade Petrópolis, Ramal Baixada, and Colocação União.

This federal recognition enables a coordinated response to address the immediate needs of the displaced families and begin the long process of rebuilding the affected infrastructure and homes in the Acrean city.
