A 34-year-old Brazilian judge has died after complications from an egg retrieval procedure. Her mother recounts the tragic sequence of events, alleging a ruptured artery and significant blood loss.

A tragic case has emerged from Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, where a 34-year-old judge, Mariana Francisco Ferreira, has died following complications from a fertility treatment. The young magistrate underwent an egg retrieval procedure for in vitro fertilization on a Monday morning, a step she was taking to preserve her future ability to become a mother.

According to her mother, Marilza Francisco, the procedure led to a severe medical emergency. Mariana began experiencing intense pain shortly after returning home from the clinic. Upon contacting the facility, she was advised to return immediately. Her mother reported that during the procedure, an artery in her daughter's cervix had ruptured, causing a major hemorrhage. Medical staff allegedly informed the family that Mariana lost approximately two liters of blood.

The situation escalated rapidly. Marilza stated that the clinic did not provide an ambulance for the transfer to a hospital. Instead, she drove her daughter to the Maternidade Mogi Mater herself, accompanied only by a clinic employee. Mariana was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) that afternoon, suffering from acute hemorrhage, severe anemia requiring a blood transfusion, and a kidney injury.

Despite undergoing surgery the following day, Mariana's condition deteriorated. In the early hours of Wednesday, she suffered two cardiac arrests. Her death was confirmed at 6:03 AM. Her mother described her as a dedicated woman whose dreams included both her career in the judiciary and starting a family.

The Clínica Invitro Reprodução Assistida, where the procedure took place, released a statement. The clinic asserted that its medical team immediately implemented technical protocols upon the first signs of complication and provided emergency care. It also noted that all surgical and medical procedures carry inherent risks and that its professionals are cooperating with authorities.

The Maternidade Mogi Mater hospital confirmed Mariana's admission with an acute hemorrhage. It stated that all appropriate medical and care measures were taken from her arrival to stabilize her condition. The hospital noted that since Mariana had not been a previous patient, the physician responsible for the fertility procedure was called in to oversee her case, including the subsequent surgery. The hospital expressed its condolences to the family.

The case has been registered as a suspicious and accidental death. The Civil Police are investigating whether the fatality resulted from inherent medical complications of the procedure or from potential failures in the care provided.
