World No. 15 Karen Khachanov of Russia defeated Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the Rome Masters, securing his place in the next stage of the tournament.

Russian tennis star Karen Khachanov, currently ranked 15th in the world, made a strong start at the prestigious Rome Masters tournament in Italy. He secured a convincing victory in his second-round match against Alexander Shevchenko from Kazakhstan, who holds the 85th position in the global rankings.

The match concluded with a scoreline of 6-4, 6:4 in favor of Khachanov. The contest lasted for a total of one hour and forty-four minutes on the court, showcasing a competitive but ultimately controlled performance from the higher-seeded player.

Khachanov's service game was a key factor in his success. He delivered five aces during the encounter, though he did commit three double faults. His ability to capitalize on break-point opportunities proved decisive, as he successfully converted three out of the four chances he created.

On the other side of the net, Shevchenko put up a fight but struggled to find his rhythm on crucial points. He managed to hit three aces and made only one double fault. However, his return game was less effective, as he could only convert one of a significant thirteen break-point opportunities presented to him.

This efficient win propels Khachanov into the third round of the Rome Masters. His next opponent will be determined by the outcome of another second-round match between Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp and American Alexander Kovacevic.

The victory marks a positive step for Khachanov as he continues his campaign on the clay courts of Rome, aiming to build momentum for the rest of the season.
