FIA/RJ launches Maio Laranja campaign in Rio, teaching children body safety via the 'body traffic light' method at major transport hubs on May 16, 18, and 25.

The Fundação para a Infância e Adolescência (FIA/RJ) has launched a series of awareness actions across Rio de Janeiro to mark Maio Laranja, the national month dedicated to combating the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents. The campaign combines educational activities with community outreach to maximize its impact.

A central feature of the initiative is the use of the "BoNACAs" methodology. Through this approach, educators employ a dynamic called the "body traffic light" to teach children, in a simple and didactic way, how to identify different types of touch: those that are permitted, those that serve as a warning, and those that are prohibited.

The campaign's schedule targets high-traffic locations to reach the broadest possible audience. On May 18, which marks the National Day to Combat the Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, activities will be held at Central do Brasil/Centro from 9 AM to 3 PM. A similar event is scheduled for the Rodoviária do Rio on May 25, also running from 9 AM to 3 PM.

A special community-focused event will take place earlier, on May 16, at Praça Nidea Otero in Jacarepaguá. This action will be expanded to include families, featuring workshops with storytelling, face painting, recreational activities, and the distribution of children's books, alongside the core preventive guidance.

Beyond educating children, the FIA teams are also directing their efforts toward parents and guardians. They are providing guidance on how to identify behavioral changes in children that may signal abuse and informing them about the secure channels available for reporting such violations.

The primary channel for reporting any human rights violation, including child abuse, is the Disque 100 hotline. The service is free, anonymous, and operates 24 hours a day, providing a critical resource for those seeking help or wishing to make a report.
