Inmet renews yellow alert for intense rainfall in nearly 100 Paraíba cities until Friday night, with potential for 50mm/day and strong winds.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has renewed a critical weather alert for the state of Paraíba. A yellow warning for heavy rains remains in effect for nearly 100 municipalities across the region, with the alert period valid until 23:59 on Friday, May 8th.

This alert signifies a potential danger for the affected areas. Residents and local authorities are advised to take necessary precautions as the weather system poses a tangible risk to public safety and infrastructure.

According to the official forecast, the intense rainfall could see precipitation rates between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour. Over the course of the day, total accumulation could reach up to 50 millimeters. These conditions are often associated with rapid flooding and waterlogging in urban areas.

Compounding the risk of heavy rain are forecasted strong winds. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour. Such gusts can be dangerous, particularly in areas with older trees or unstable structures.

Inmet has specifically highlighted several potential hazards resulting from this weather event. There is a low but present risk of power outages, falling tree branches, localized flooding, and electrical discharges. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay clear of flooded areas and downed power lines.

The renewal of this alert underscores the ongoing unstable weather pattern affecting northeastern Brazil. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and updates will be provided as the weather system evolves throughout the day.
