A suspect in Tanguá, Rio, fought a police officer for his rifle, firing five shots. The officer was bitten during the struggle. No one was hit.

A routine police patrol in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area escalated into a violent confrontation on Friday afternoon. In the municipality of Tanguá, a suspect with an extensive criminal record was apprehended after a physical struggle with a military police officer.

The incident began when a patrol from the 35th BPM (Itaboraí) spotted a suspicious group in the Pinhão area. Upon seeing the police vehicle, two men fled towards the Vila das Hortênsias residential complex. During the ensuing search, a third individual emerged suddenly from an alley, surprising one of the officers.

A physical altercation ensued as the suspect attempted to seize the officer's rifle, which was slung on a bandoleer. During the struggle, the man managed to reach the weapon's trigger and discharge it five times. The sound of gunfire caused panic among nearby residents, who fled the area.

Despite the severity of the situation, the discharged rounds did not strike any individuals. The suspect was ultimately subdued and arrested at the scene. The involved police officer required medical attention at a local clinic due to a bite wound inflicted by the attacker during the confrontation.

The case has been registered at the 70th DP (Tanguá). Authorities confirmed the arrested individual has five prior criminal annotations, including charges related to drug trafficking, homicide, and theft.
