Salvador Approves $2.7B Public Safety Plan Through 2035The Salvador City Council has officially approved the Municipal Public Safety and Social Defense Plan (PMSPDS), a comprehensive security framework for the city with a budget that could reach R$14.3 billion (approximately $2.7 billion USD) by 2035.

The approved document establishes the principles, guidelines, and objectives for public safety within the municipality. A key component of the plan is the formal articulation of coordination mechanisms between Salvador's municipal government and both the state government of Bahia and the federal government of Brazil.

The details of the plan were initially presented by Mayor Bruno Reis of União Brasil during an event in November of the previous year. The presentation was attended by other high-ranking authorities, including Bahia Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues of the PT (Workers' Party), signaling cross-party support for the initiative.

The approval of the PMSPDS marks a significant step in formalizing Salvador's long-term approach to public safety, providing a structured roadmap for security investments and intergovernmental collaboration over the next decade.
