Inmet issued two storm warnings for over 1,000 Brazilian municipalities on May 8, with winds up to 100 km/h from an extratropical cyclone near Buenos Aires.

Brazil Storm Warnings May 8: 1,000+ Municipalities at RiskThe National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued two storm warnings covering more than 1,000 municipalities across Brazil's South, Southeast, and Center-West regions for Friday, May 8.

The first warning, classified as dangerous, affects 818 municipalities with anticipated winds between 60 km/h and 100 km/h. These conditions pose significant risks of fallen trees, roof damage, and structural harm to buildings.

A second warning, of potential danger, covers an additional 234 municipalities where gusts between 40 km/h and 60 km/h are expected.

The severe weather is attributed to a strong extratropical cyclone forming off the coast of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This system is causing dry gusts and a sharp drop in atmospheric pressure across the affected regions.

Meteorologists also forecast that a cold front associated with this system will bring the first cold wave of the year between May 8 and 11.

Residents and authorities in the warned areas are advised to monitor official updates and take necessary precautions against the high winds and potential damage.
