Câmara de Divinópolis Approves Project to Replace School Sirens with Music for Autism InclusionIn a move aimed at promoting greater inclusivity in educational environments, the Câmara de Divinópolis has approved a project that would replace traditional school sirens with music. The initiative is specifically designed to support students with Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA), or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who experience sensory hypersensitivity.

The project addresses a significant challenge faced by many students with ASD, for whom loud, sudden sounds like traditional school sirens can cause distress and discomfort. By substituting these sounds with music, the initiative seeks to create a more welcoming and accommodating school environment.

Following approval by the Câmara, the project will now be sent to Mayor Janete Aparecida of the Avante party for consideration. The mayor will have the option to either sanction the project into law or veto it.

This legislative action reflects growing awareness and commitment to creating inclusive educational spaces that accommodate the diverse needs of all students, including those with sensory processing differences associated with autism.
