The only neonatal intensive care unit (ICU) in Votorantim, São Paulo, has officially ceased operations. The closure at Hospital Municipal Dr. Lauro Roberto Fogaça, which served patients through the public health system (SUS), results in the relocation of at least 15 staff members and leaves the city without critical care services for newborns.

In a significant development for local healthcare, Instituto Moriah has officially closed the neonatal intensive care unit (ICU) at Hospital Municipal Dr. Lauro Roberto Fogaça in Votorantim, São Paulo. The closure, which took effect on Wednesday, the 6th, marks the end of the city's only such facility operating under the public health system (SUS).

The shutdown has immediate practical consequences, leading to the reallocation of at least 15 healthcare professionals who were staffed at the unit. More critically, it leaves the municipality of Votorantim without any local service providing intensive therapy for newborns, a vital component of neonatal care.

According to the Votorantim City Hall, the decision was justified based on low local demand for the service and a lack of financial support from the State Government. In response, the State Government stated that it is currently in negotiations with the city administration to find a way to guarantee the continuity of this essential service for the community.
