Founded in 1967 through the merger of two local clubs, AS Nancy and FC Nancy, Association Sportive de Nancy-Lorraine, commonly known as AS Nancy or simply Nancy, is a historic French football club based in the city of Nancy in the Grand Est region. The club was established with the ambition of creating a strong sporting entity for the Lorraine region. Their home is the Stade Marcel Picot, a 20,000-capacity stadium in Tomblaine, just outside Nancy, known for its intimate and often fervent atmosphere. Nancy's most glorious period came in the late 1970s under the presidency of Claude Cuenot and the management of Antoine Redin. The pinnacle was winning the 1978 Coupe de France, defeating Nice 1-0 in the final, a triumph that remains the club's only major trophy. This victory also secured their first foray into European competition, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. The club is famously renowned for its exceptional youth academy, which has produced a stream of French internationals.
