Dynamo Moscow head coach Leonid Tambyev clarifies his role, stating he focuses solely on player scouting and sports strategy, leaving all financial

Leonid Tambyev, the head coach of Moscow's Dynamo hockey club, has drawn a clear line between his sporting duties and the club's financial operations. In a recent statement, he emphasized that he deliberately avoids any involvement with the budget or money-related discussions.

"I don't touch the money. I deal with the sports side of things," Tambyev explained. His process involves identifying and evaluating potential players, after which he presents his recommendations. The subsequent negotiations and contract discussions, he states, fall under the domain of diplomacy and business, which is the responsibility of the sports director.

This separation of duties is central to his coaching philosophy. He gathers information on a player, assesses their potential contribution to the team, and then makes a formal proposal. "I work like this and never touch the money. I'm not an accountant," he reiterated, underscoring his focus on the athletic component.

Regarding the club's current operational structure, Tambyev confirmed he is working closely with Sergei Sushko. The two engage in daily discussions about player prospects and scouting strategies. He acknowledged the inherent challenges of the transfer market, noting that many players are under contract or restricted by qualifications, making timely acquisitions difficult.

The coach also pointed out that successful team integration can happen at various points in the season, citing examples like Todd and Khmelevski who joined their respective teams mid-season and made significant impacts. This highlights the fluid and sometimes unpredictable nature of building a competitive roster.

Tambyev expressed confidence in the club's workflow, mentioning that the proximity of the office to the arena—just 50 meters away—facilitates constant communication and planning. He assured fans and observers that concrete announcements regarding the team's composition are forthcoming, with a specific date set for revelations.

"We work every morning here at Dynamo. On June 1st, there will be announcements," he stated, setting a clear timeline for when the club's offseason plans will start to become public. This approach aims to balance the need for strategic patience with the urgency of assembling a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
