Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka defeated Barbora Krejcikova 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, advancing to face Sorana Cirstea next.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka delivered a commanding performance at the Italian Open, dispatching Czech player Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets to secure her place in the third round of the prestigious WTA 1000 event in Rome.

The Belarusian star needed just one hour and 27 minutes to wrap up the victory, winning 6-2, 6-3 against the 53rd-ranked Krejcikova. Sabalenka's consistency proved decisive throughout the match, as she converted four of nine break-point opportunities while keeping her unforced errors relatively in check.

Despite not firing any aces during the contest, Sabalenka's baseline game and return pressure overwhelmed her opponent. She committed only two double faults throughout the match, showcasing the kind of controlled aggression that has kept her atop the women's rankings.

Krejcikova, for her part, showed flashes of her shot-making ability with four aces during the encounter. However, the Czech struggled with her serve consistency, recording seven double faults that ultimately undermined her efforts to stay competitive against the top seed.

The former Roland Garros champion managed to convert just one of three break-point chances, a conversion rate that proved insufficient against Sabalenka's relentless pressure. The Belarusian's ability to capitalize on key moments made the difference in what was otherwise a relatively straightforward affair.

With this victory, Sabalenka advances to the third round of the Rome tournament, where she will face Romanian player Sorana Cirstea. The 27th-ranked Cirstea presents a different challenge, and the world number one will need to maintain her high level of play to continue her progress through the draw.

The WTA 1000 event in Rome serves as a crucial warm-up tournament ahead of the French Open, and strong performances here can provide valuable momentum heading into the clay-court Grand Slam. Sabalenka's efficient victory suggests she is finding her rhythm on the European clay.
