A dramatic incident unfolded on the BR-262 highway in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday evening, as security camera footage captured a taxi colliding with a pedestrian following a separate traffic accident. The event occurred around 6 p.m. in the Goiânia neighborhood, at the junction with BR-381.
According to the Military Police, the sequence of events began when the 39-year-old taxi driver struck another vehicle in a section where the road narrows. The driver of the other car, a 41-year-old woman, stated she was traveling in the right lane when the taxi attempted to overtake her, causing the initial collision.
Following the first crash, the taxi driver reportedly exited his vehicle to speak with the other driver. However, he claimed that a group of people approached with "heightened emotions," prompting him to get back into his taxi and leave the scene quickly. It was during this hasty departure that he struck a 44-year-old man walking along the roadside just meters ahead.
The pedestrian sustained injuries described as minor, affecting his head and left leg. Emergency services from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) responded to the scene and transported the injured man to Hospital Odilon Behrens for treatment.
Due to the risk of further accidents on the busy highway, authorities moved both vehicles from the roadway before completing their official report. Both drivers involved in the initial collision were released at the scene.
During their investigation, police discovered that the car hit by the taxi had an expired vehicle registration from 2024. As a result, that vehicle was impounded and taken to an accredited yard in the Califórnia neighborhood, and an infraction report was issued.
The Civil Police have confirmed they are continuing to investigate the case and may release additional information at a later date. The entire sequence of events, from the initial collision to the pedestrian being struck, was captured on security video that has since circulated online.
