Team profile
Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles FC, commonly known as LAFC, is a Major League Soccer (MLS) club that has rapidly become a defining force in American soccer since its inception. Founded in 2014 as an expansion team, the club was born from the ashes of the dissolved Chivas USA, with an ambitious ownership group led by venture capitalist Henry Nguyen, sports executive Peter Guber, and soccer legend Mia Hamm. Their mission was to create a world-class club that would embody the spirit of Los Angeles. The team's home is the state-of-the-art Banc of California Stadium, a 22,000-seat soccer-specific venue opened in 2018 in the heart of Los Angeles's Exposition Park. Its striking design and intimate atmosphere have made it one of the most formidable fortresses in MLS. LAFC's on-field identity is built on an aggressive, high-pressing, and attacking style of play, a philosophy instilled by its first head coach, Bob Bradley, and continued by his successors. In a remarkably short time, LAFC has amassed significant silverware. The club won the Supporters' Shield in 2019 and 2022, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record. The pinnacle of their success came in 2022, when they captured their first MLS Cup championship in a dramatic final against the Philadelphia Union. The club has also been a regular participant in the CONCACAF Champions League. The roster has featured global stars who became legendary figures for the club. Mexican international Carlos Vela, the club's first designated player, set the MLS single-season scoring record in 2019 and is the team's all-time leading scorer and assist provider. Welsh superstar Gareth Bale joined in 2022 and scored a crucial equalizer in the MLS Cup final. Other notable players include Uruguayan forward Diego Rossi and French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. LAFC's fan culture is among the most vibrant in the league, led by the passionate supporters' group, the 3252, named after the capacity of the north end of their stadium. Their fierce rivalry with the LA Galaxy, known as "El Tráfico," is one of the most intense derbies in MLS, captivating the city's soccer landscape. Currently, LAFC remains a perennial contender, consistently challenging for top honors in the Western Conference and solidifying its status as a premier club in North American soccer.
